Personal professional risk

Some time ago, someone said to me that I’m too analytical and that I lack joie de vivre. She was indeed right with her analytical comment. Perhaps, my previous professions (ie, CPA, CFO) also have a personal (professional) risk.

In my view, the upsides (eg, freedom, reward) of my professions are (much) bigger than their downsides (eg, too analytical). My joie de vivre is (only) visible in details, like frequent restaurant visits.

Someone else triggered this personal professional risk topic, following this comment: “Still I hope that I will once be able again to deal with sex and intimacy in a normal way”. Those words struck me hard.

Clearly, professional risk also has a personal dimension, apart from its business dimension. Actually, this (personal risk) perspective – rather than focusing on attitude, behaviour & personality – is new to me.

Risk & Reward have common features in areas like investing, jobs, and sports:

  • low risk = low reward (eg, employee);
  • medium risk = medium reward (eg, manager);
  • high risk = high reward (eg, employer).

In my view, my personal professional risk (eg, too analytical) is a strength (eg, in my writing) and not a weakness. My downside risk is that possibly maybes often think that I’m more intelligent than they would like me to be.

Perhaps, an intelligent man is a personal (professional) risk to a woman.

[Verse 1]
Pretty women out walking with gorillas down my street
From my window, I’m staring while my coffee goes cold
