Until recently, I considered this question irrelevant and even ridiculous. All of AI’s knowledge is derived from “us”. AI will never have intuition, and/or inspiration, and/or feelings, and/or (hopefully) beliefs.
A Dutch article on protesters against AI made me realise that I’ve over-estimated human intelligence, or under-estimated human stupidity. American anti-AI protests have already become common.
Once you include human stupidity then the answer becomes intriguing. Considering Albert Einstein’s quote on the infinity of human stupidity, AI is already – or soon will be – “smarter” than “many” humans.
Definitions are always relevant and especially those about “smarter” and “us”.
In this respect, the S.M.A.R.T. criteria (eg, in project management) are quite important: Specific, Measurable, Achievable (or Attainable), Relevant, and Time-bound (or Time-based).
In my view, “smarter” relates to various questions, like the How, What, When, Where, Who and Why. Answering the Why question is most important because everything follows Why.
Example: An exam question may be about the timing of an event. Does a correct answer make you smarter compared to wrong answers? I’m not so sure.
In my view, the quantity of knowledge does not make AI “smarter” than “us”. Moreover, quantity and quality have a complex symbiosis. Quantity is only about volume. Quality is much more, including understanding.
I doubt that AI can understand the quality of facts, knowledge, and information – let alone wisdom. The answer to my blog title is in the details – as always. Hence, my diagram below that also serves as a summary of the above.

Man Smart (Woman Smarter) – 1936 – by Harry Belafonte (1956)
artist, lyrics, video, Wiki-artist, Wiki-song
“Through biblical and modern-day anecdotes, Belafonte asserts the intelligence and superiority and the females of our species.”
