The sawtooth effect

I’m noticing a slow, gradual, positive (bodily) improvement, while also noticing sudden performance declines (in my walking). My mother (91) experiences a (mental) opposite effect. This effect is know as the sawtooth effect.

It might not be a coincidence that the sawtooth wave resembles a triangle. A triangle is the strongest geometrical shape in time (eg, pyramids).

The title of an article – see my quote below – is intriguing. I ignored its further contents. Indeed, history also shows a sawtooth effect (eg, pandemics, wars). There’s (indeed) no linear progress. That’s (indeed) a myth.

My remaining question: why does Growth (also) follows a sawtooth wave??

The Sawtooth of History or: the myth of linear progress
