The Void (2)

Last Saturday, a funny Terry Pratchett quote entered my mind: “The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.” Perhaps that quote is the essence of any void.

I suppose that a void resembles a vacuum with the difference that a void is open and a vacuum is closed. There’s a similar difference between open mindedness (see TP quote) and closed mindedness.

For some time, my title (ie, the Void) has been bugging me. This blog is my attempt to reconcile the macro (eg, the Universe) and the micro (eg, the mind).

Is a void necessary for ((successful) growth ??

At a micro level, growth is quite obvious in humans: pregnancy, childhood, adulthood. Essentially, the same applies to other lifeforms (eg, animals, plants, trees). Hence, my consideration: a void might be necessary for growth.

At a macro level, my consideration might also apply: a void is necessary for a growing Universe (eg, galaxies, moons, planets, suns). The Why would equal Growth itself.

The need for voids in the Universe becomes clear from the potential Andromeda–Milky Way collision:

“The Andromeda–Milky Way collision is a galactic collision that may occur in about 4.5 billion years between the two largest galaxies in the Local Group—the Milky Way (which contains the Solar System and Earth) and the Andromeda Galaxy.”

I suppose such universal voids allow for (many) galaxies instead of having just one (1) galaxy, which would seem rather impossible to flourish.

“Youth always tries to fill the void, an old man learns to live with it.”
