Recently, someone blamed me for not apologizing. My reply was simple: why should I apologize for your wrong conclusions? I only apologize when my intentions are/were wrong. I will not apologize towards people, who are misreading what I did, said and/or wrote. My explanation is also in this quote:
“True remorse is never just a regret over consequences; it is a regret over motive.”
A very important quote by Mignon McLaughlin (1913-1983), an American journalist and author.
I do not believe in political correctness by saying “Sorry” to someone in order to please them. I’m quite sure that people would be able to read my face and would see the dishonesty in my “Sorry” (eg, no flushed cheeks).
Obviously, the end-result may very well become social alienation. As a result, “friends” will become acquaintances. However, true friends do not assume wrong intentions – at least in my view.
This also reminds me of my former question to that same person: Are we friends??
Perhaps, my true apology is this one: I’m sorry for having assumed that we were friends.
