A local friend made the (Dutch) comment above. He urged me to consider this and write about it. His smirky smile suggested that his remark had an ambiguous (eg, sexual) context, which is rather common.
Actually, Science (eg, Boston Uni, Physics, TH) agrees with his observation:
Yes, friction is necessary for forward motion in many cases. When an object pushes against a surface, friction provides the opposing force that allows for movement. Without friction, an object’s motion would be severely limited or impossible, as the pushing force would be directly countered without any resistance.

The 2025 NATO summit is another example. Frictions between European NATO countries and USA preceded the new 5% spending target. Moreover, hardly any military success comes without obstacles (eg, Russian invasion of Ukraine).
Innovation (eg, inventions) – like in business, management, and/or technology – cannot arrive without obstacles (eg, failures, strikes).
Hence, all three domains Love, Knowledge & Power are using friction to move forward.
How about the Universe? An inflating universe suggests that the universe is also moving “forward”.
I suppose its moving “forward” is about the friction between energy (eg, sunlight) and matter (eg, comets, dust, gas, suns, planets). A particular kind of friction might be black holes that are both absorbing matter (eg, BBC, Wiki) as well as burping matter (eg, Space-2023).
Besides matter, energy is another friction (eg, heating expands matter).
I suppose that Light is more than just sunlight (eg, daylight, UV-radiation, sun warming). Matter blocking Light allows us to see objects (eg, chairs, table). Our skull does not block light: Scientists beamed light right through a man’s head for the first time (ie, ScienceAlert-2025).
Perhaps, Light also “carries” data-info, including what we refer to as (individual / universal) consciousness. This may imply that the universe has a never-ending inflation.
Nevertheless, our Solar System and the Milky Way suggests a frictionless perpetual motion. Is that even possible?? No, not really. Please see Is Perpetual Motion Possible at the Quantum Level? (Quanta-2023), and the Andromeda–Milky Way collision (Wiki).
Fraction Too Much Friction (1983) by Tim Finn

There’s a fraction too much friction
There’s a fraction too much friction
Don’t believe in opposing factions
What we need is some positive action
There’s a fraction too much friction
