In March 2018, I wrote about the simplicity bias, part-1 to part-5. It took me some months before I realised everything is getting more complex (eg, in life, nature, universe). In September 2018, I started writing on the complexity bias (1). Many episodes followed (eg, part-14 in 2024). Today, starts part-15.
Early April 2025, Quanta published this article: Why Everything in the Universe Turns More Complex:
“A new proposal by an interdisciplinary team of researchers challenges that bleak conclusion. They have proposed nothing less than a new law of nature, according to which the complexity of entities in the universe increases over time with an inexorability comparable to the second law of thermodynamics — the law that dictates an inevitable rise in entropy, a measure of disorder. If they’re right, complex and intelligent life should be widespread.”

The reference (above) to the second law of thermodynamics is interesting because this physical law may well explain why everything – like in life, nature and the universe – shows increasing levels of complexity – over time. In life, an example would be the cycle of cradle-to-grave. Death and entropy are similar.
The complexity bias in human life is visible in our continued technological development of humanoid robots. This process will – ultimately – result in our successor: humanoid sapiens, a robot with a human “brain“. My 2021 diagram below explains this process.

The above would imply that the list of “weird” UFO sightings must involve “species” that are – technologically – far superior to humans. Most likely, humans are not ready to accept that notion. Hence, the 2022 U.S. Congress hearings on UFOs revealed almost nothing (interesting).
It’s tempting to view the use of tools as solely human. However, the use of tools by non-humans has a separate Wikipedia page:
Tool use by non-humans is a phenomenon in which a non-human animal uses any kind of tool in order to achieve a goal such as acquiring food and water, grooming, combat, defence, communication, recreation or construction. Originally thought to be a skill possessed only by humans, some tool use requires a sophisticated level of cognition.

In my view, technology is an accelerator for achieving singularity. Please view my 2024 blog: The complexity bias (13): singularity as the ultimate goal? In my view, humanoid sapiens is its example, and transhumanism (eg, Wiki) is its tool.
