Since a few weeks, a new feeling has come over me. I have had trouble finding its “name”. Its feeling is about the opposite of the fear of missing out (FOMO). The joy of missing out (JOMO) is misleading. I’ve dubbed my feeling as “done with USA“. The less I hear, read or see about Trump’s America, the better.
I can afford my feelings because I do not live there. I do realise that it must be hard living in Trump’s America (eg, fear for deportation). Nevertheless, I hardly feel any empathy towards Americans as they elected that guy (or didn’t even vote). In my view, they should feel the consequences of their choice.
I’m still in doubt whether my ‘done with USA‘ feeling includes abandoning American technology (eg, iPhone). Abandoning American services (eg, subscriptions) is indeed on my to-do list. The less I read about Trump’s USA, the better. Moreover, there is a lack of confident humility in American writing.
Does the above imply that I’ve have become a (sudden) Europhile, a “person who is fond of, admires, or loves European culture, society, history, food, music etc.” ?? No, not really. I suppose it’s more about losing my appetite for the Anglo-American culture, which has become a mad world (see below).
I suppose my current ‘done with USA‘ attitude is about self-preservation as I do expect that matters will get far worse there. My expected U.S. constitutional crisis is a near certainty; see my 2025-03 blog. How far can things go wrong there?? A new presidential assassination?? A new American Civil War??
Being a liberal-conservative European, it’s hard for me to see the ignorance of nationalism, my 2017 blog. Unfortunately, their ignorance is far worse than the arrogance of the liberal-left (2017). It appears there’s hardly any middle ground between arrogance and ignorance, especially in USA.
It’s a mad world there, and I’m done with it.
