The rollercoaster of solitude and loneliness (7)

I’m in a new phase of my rollercoaster of solitude and loneliness. I failed to see this coming, despite part 6 of this blog series from October 2024. My comforting feeing of solitude seems to have vanished into thin air.

Feelings of (temporary) loneliness have replaced my solitude. I can hardly remember such feelings. I’m not sure if I ever experienced those feelings before. Latter might be the reason why those feelings feel so uncommon.

I suppose that the fear of loneliness might well be the shadow side of love (eg, source-1, source-2, book). I had never realised this shadow side. The quote below suggests that the writer had a similar experience.

“[..] one thing that impacted me most was the concept of ‘Shadow Side’. This is the concept that although all character strengths are in essence positive, to every character trait there is also a negative side, the ‘shadow side’.”

Nevertheless, the Shadow Side of Love is more positive than negative as it will – or should – make us appreciate Love, while Love is all around (us). Actually, you never know what you have until it’s gone (eg, Medium, Quora, source).

Appreciation is hard because it makes us vulnerable. Nevertheless, vulnerability is one of the key elements of a successful relationship.

The other six elements of a successful relationship are:

  1. communication,
  2. forgiveness,
  3. intimacy,
  4. respect,
  5. togetherness, and
  6. trust.

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”

Everytime You Go Away (1980) by Daryl Hall & John Oates

[Chorus 1]
And everytime you go away
You take a piece of me with you
And everytime you go away
You take a piece of me with you, you
