Mid December 2024, the journal Neuron published a study entitled The unbearable slowness of being: Why do we live at 10 bits/s? I became aware through the NYT: The Speed of Human Thought Lags Far Behind Your Internet Connection, Study Finds.
“It’s a bit of a counterweight to the endless hyperbole about how incredibly complex and powerful the human brain is,” said Markus Meister, a neuroscientist at the California Institute of Technology and an author of the study. “If you actually try to put numbers to it, we are incredibly slow.”

I must admit that I was a little skeptical about that 2024 study. However, then something happened that confirmed the study (ie, a rather late brainwave). Apparently, it took my brain quite long to realise an inconsistency in my thinking.
In my view, the 2024 study also confirms “a 2011 popular science book by psychologist Daniel Kahneman” (1934-2024), entitled Thinking, Fast and Slow.
“The book’s main thesis is a differentiation between two modes of thought: “System 1” is fast, instinctive and emotional; “System 2” is slower, more deliberative, and more logical.”

Unfortunately, Daniel Kahneman died several months before the publication of this 2024 study. I suppose he would have been pleased with this study confirming his 2011 book Thinking, Fast and Slow.
