My title is a common advice by people. I suppose I use that type of advice myself as well. Nevertheless, that advice feels rather useless if and when you receive it yourself. Quite often, the issue – or “problem“ – is time-bound. The very next day, you might have forgotten already.
“Firstly, I felt like it was a personal attack. As if the premise of her advice was to chastise me somehow. Why hadn’t I let it go yet? What was wrong with me? Why was I holding onto this pain? Is this feeling all my fault? I was weak and pathetic.”

The phrases “Let it go” (eg, my 2015 blog) and “Moving on” (eg, my 2016 blog) are connected to various blog topics, like anger, betrayal, forgetting & forgiving, guilt & shame, and/or regret & remorse. Please see the Mareez Reyes quote below. Sometimes, it’s just about (continued) complaining.
I’ve noticed two articles with opposite messages – positive versus negative – about the topic of Let It Go:
- Medium, 2021: The Unstoppable Power Of Letting Go.
- Psychology Today, 2014: Why “Letting It Go” Might Not Be Such a Good Idea.
The Mareez Reyes quote below argues that letting go is one of the hardest lessons in life.
In my view, self–acceptance and self-love are – probably – the hardest lessons in life, and/but a solution to letting go.
“One of the hardest lessons in life is letting go. Whether it’s guilt, anger, love, loss or betrayal. Change is never easy. We fight to hold on and we fight to let go. If you’ve been hurt until it breaks your soul into pieces, your perspective in life will definitely change, and no one and nothing in this world could ever hurt you again.”

Let It Go (2014) by James Bay
artist, lyrics, video, Wiki-artist, Wiki-song
[Chorus]
So, come on, let it go, just let it be
Why don’t you be you, and I’ll be me?
Everything that’s broke, leave it to the breeze
Why don’t you be you, and I’ll be me?
And I’ll be me
