“Ignorance is bliss”, according to an 18th-century poem by Thomas Gray. Listening to ignorance can be quite funny, unlike arrogance. Hence, I wonder if the ignorance of the conservative-right has beaten the arrogance of the liberal-left on November 5. To some extent, the same is happening in Europe.
The arrogance of the liberal-left manifests itself in topics like climate change, migrants & refugees, and electric vehicles. Possibly also on topics like inflation and attitude, behaviour and personality (eg, Trump). However, I suppose that Europe is (very) different than USA on latter two topics.
Arrogance is seldom funny because arrogance is basically insulting. They (think they) know better and all others must accept their view. French president Sarkozy was heavily criticised (by the Left) after stating that climate change is already existing for 5 billion years (eg, Reuters-2016).
Several years ago, a friendship ended after a similar discussion. After a long discussion, she finally agreed with me that climate change is the default in nature – not the exception. However, she continued (and ended) our discussion by claiming that it’s (much) worse now, without offering any evidence.
In my view, the liberal-left has pushed their agenda for too far and too long. Now the tide is turning – in Europe and in the USA. This turning tide will, however, also suffer from its ignorance – in due course (eg, decades, not years). Time works like a very slow pendulum of a very big clock.
The Jordan Peterson video below is on purpose because there is – indeed – a great difference between intelligence and wisdom.
“We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity; more than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.”
A quote from The Great Dictator (1940) by Charlie Chaplin (1889-1977)
