A recent Dutch female opinion article argued: “Even if Harris loses the elections, the female surge can no longer be stopped”. As a man, I disagree. In my view, the surge of American women has hit a glass ceiling – and very, very hard.

Why did Kamala Harris lose so big?? She even lost the 2024 U.S. popular vote (eg, FT Exclusive), despite the fact that a majority of American voters is female (eg, Rutgers.edu). Did women also reject her??

Even the entire Congress may become Republican, due to Democrats losing the House of Representatives, in which they gained a majority since 2018. The U.S. Senate has largely been Republican, until its current 49/49 deadlock.

In my view, the loss of Hillary Clinton (in 2016) and the loss of Kamala Harris (in 2024) is no coincidence. I suspect that the Democratic party will not (dare to) nominate another woman for – at least – a decade. I suspect that Americans prefer men; even convicted criminals.

Would Michelle Obama have won the 2024 U.S. presidential election for the Democrats?? Probably not. She would have been – and successfully – accused of inexperience. Also see my July 2024 blog: Who will be the new kid in town? Governor Gavin Newsom would have had the best chances of winning.

Interestingly, the Kamala Harris‘ concession speech showed no sign of accountability – let alone responsibility – for her stunning defeat. Instead, she (only) offered an “rallying cry” (the Times) like Hillary Clinton did in 2016. Both women will soon be forgotten – like failed men.

“Vice President Kamala Harris conceded the 2024 presidential election to President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday in an impassioned speech focused on the work that still must be done to “make the world a better place,” not unlike the concession speech former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave in 2016.”

I suppose this recent FT Exclusive comment is (very) valid :

“His dramatic victory, which saw him gain ground in nearly every state, and win the popular vote for the first time, signals a seismic shift in US politics as his “America First” agenda returns to the forefront.”

[Chorus]
Well, I’ve been afraid of changin’
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m getting older too
