The complexity bias (13): singularity as the ultimate goal?

In my view, the mind of multicellular organisms is the most complex part of any lifeform. The body is mostly a standardization tool (eg, arms, drinking, eating, head, legs) to protect and support the mind. In my view, the soul is the linking pin between individual and universal consciousness.

Might the complexity bias of the mind be heading towards being part of universal consciousness??

In this view, transhumanism (eg, Wiki) might then (also) be viewed as tool towards standardization of the body in order to protect and support the mind.

Perhaps, the goal of the complexity bias should be viewed as the future “merger” of individual and universal consciousness a.k.a. singularity (eg, Wiki). These quotes from The Singularity is Near (2005) by author Ray Kurzweil (b.1948) suggest the same:

  • “Increasing complexity” on its own is not, however, the ultimate goal or end-product of these evolutionary processes. Evolution results in better answers, not necessarily more complicated ones. Sometimes a superior solution is a simpler one.” (source)
  • “The essential thing is to recognize that consciousness is a biological process like digestion, lactation, photosynthesis, or mitosis” (source).

Ray Kurzweil’s prediction about 2045 (Wiki: “I set the date for the Singularity—representing a profound and disruptive transformation in human capability—as 2045”) makes no sense to me regarding a synthesis of individual and universal consciousness. We still don’t even know what consciousness actually is.

I suppose Ray Kurzweil’s concept of singularity is only about transhumanism and the “future technologies that can greatly enhance longevity, cognition, and well-being”. In that case, the year 2045 might indeed be Specific, Measurable, Assignable, Realistic, and Time-related (SMART-criteria).

In my view, it’s unlikely that there will ever be a synthesis of individual and universal consciousness, despite the direction of the complexity bias. In my view, its synthesis will be more like increaseddistributed computing“.

No individual human mind can survive access to universal consciousness. Madness is the likely result.
