The Russian comments on the Ukraine attacks on Russian territory, are an example of not understanding reciprocity, despite Isaac Newton’s Third Law of Motion: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
According to Ukraine, “Russia must be forced to make peace [..]” (RFE). I’m far from sure that those “incursions” will improve Ukraine’s negotiating position. It’s (much) more likely that revenge and retaliation will (further) increase.
I suppose that many nations, including “former” archenemy China, will (ultimately) want a near-total humiliation of Russia. Hence, it’s in the interest of those nations to prolong the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Post WW-2 democracies were keen to avoid a near-total humiliation of Germany. This 2024 LinkedIn article (“Don’t Humiliate An Opponent”) explains why, while quoting Sun Tzu’s famous ancient book The Art of War.
In my view, the fight between siblings Russia and Ukraine mirrors the biblical fight between Cain and Abel, “the first two sons of Adam and Eve”. The (Russian) survivor will become an international pariah.
Ukraine assumes a victim role, despite its violent history (eg, Wiki, WSJ). I sincerely hope that Ukraine will never belong to NATO. Fortunately, the new NATO chief is (also) against Ukraine entering EU and/or NATO (eg, NPO1).
