Sta Hungry Stay Foolish

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

“Life is not easy, faith and hope keeps me going”

Last Tuesday, an old friend said the following in our conversation: “life is not easy, faith and hope keeps me going”. I suppose her words contain universal wisdom. Her words (also) relate to 1 Corinthians 13-13: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Got Questions states the following conclusion on the difference between faith and hope: “Faith and hope are complementary. Faith is grounded in the reality of the past; hope is looking to the reality of the future. Without faith, there is no hope, and without hope there is no true faith.”

The above does not clarify the origins of faith and hope:
– Are faith and hope learned and/or taught (ie, nurture) ?
– Are faith and hope a “setting” in human firmware that we can choose to switch ON / OFF (ie, nature) ?
– Are faith and hope both part of nature and nurture?

In my view, faith and hope must be linked to (human) beliefs. I doubt that it is even possible having faith and hope without having (human) beliefs. It should be noted that there are (also) signs of proto-religious beliefs in animals. Latter would suggest that faith and hope result from nature and nurture.

I’ve noticed some articles that indeed confirm my (preliminary) conclusion:
Nurturing hope and
Ways to Nurture Faith, Hope and Love;
Nature vs. nurture is nonsense: On the necessity of an integrated genetic, social, developmental, and personality psychology (T&F Online-2019).

My blog of 2019 stated the following: “The above is related to my concept of Faith, Beliefs & Willpower. Willpower is about executing your beliefs. Your beliefs are powered by your faith. Faith includes conviction (in these beliefs) but is also like a connection to an everlasting energy source.”

“You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once but don’t ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.”

[Verse 1]
I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough
Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up
Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?
Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know
