The word chemistry was quite often used during my recent viewing of Hallmark Christmas films; see my related blog. Defining chemistry is as hard as defining love. Both are container terms. The ancient Greek had at least 6 different words for love (eg, Wiki). Chemistry has at least 3 types.
My diagram is the result of a conversation. Once again, she has inspired me.
She used to tick off every department: body, mind & soul. Perhaps she still does. I don’t know because she’s out of my life for some 10 years.
She used to be my soulmate. I admired her intelligence. and I craved for her luscious body.
Still, I never said to her that I loved her because I did not know what love was – back then. Moreover, our characters did – and do – not match.
I suppose there is still chemistry between her and me. It might well be that soulmates do not have space and/or time barriers. I still feel a similar connection to a soulmate who died in 2016. The other two types, including sapiosexuality, seem irrelevant because out of sight is out of mind.
In 2022, I quit dating following a string of disappointments; see my related blog. It feels better having a friend, either with or without benefits. Please see my recent blog on relationship vs situationship. In my case, the negative energy from disappointments is rather overwhelming.
The disadvantage of quitting dating is that I miss out on new chemistry. So far, the advantages of missing out on new disappointments in my life, outweigh the disadvantages of quitting dating.
Some quotes on chemistry:
- “The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.” Carl Jung
- “Chemistry can be a good and bad thing. Chemistry is good when you make love with it. Chemistry is bad when you make crack with it.” Adam Sandler
- “Chemistry is not anything an executive producer or writer can orchestrate or plan; you just hope for it.” David E. Kelley

[Verse 2]
I’ve been patient, I’ve been good
Tried to keep my hands on the table
It’s gettin’ hard, this holdin’ back
You know what I mean
I’m sure you’ll understand my point of view
We know each other mentally
You gotta know that you’re bringin’ out
The animal in me
