Sta Hungry Stay Foolish

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

Non-acceptance = Chaos ?

In Monday’s blog, I wondered why humans – unlike the Universe – have this option of (non-) acceptance. Subsequently, I realised my question has an implicit presumption: acceptance is the default value in the Universe. Is it really? Is the absence of evidence of the opposite enough?

Our (human) non-acceptance of events results in chaos, either in our mind (eg, burnout) or in real life (eg, 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine). Hence, non-acceptance in the Universe should then result in (epic) Chaos. However, the Universe appears to be the exact opposite: a magnificent Equilibrium.

Hence, my question: why do humans – unlike the Universe – have this option of (non-) acceptance?

It’s tempting to use human consciousness as an answer. However, in my view, the Universe is also conscious, a concept known as panpsychism (eg, Wiki). I cannot have my cake and eat it too.

In my view, there are three stages of collective development in Life: Needs (all lifeforms), Wants (lifeforms using tools, like birds and humans), and Beliefs (humans only). Non-acceptance – for whatever reason (eg, freedom) – may well be a human philosophical belief rather than anything else.

We used to have core values that we believed in, like family and religion. Individualism and competition seem to have taken over from community and cooperation. Perhaps, the resulting chaos is (“just”) a path towards a new equilibrium. Perhaps, it’s not.

Losing our core values, without having found new ones to replace them, may result in an “open” mind:

“The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.”

A quote by Terry Pratchett (1948-2015), an English humorist, satirist, and author of fantasy novels.

The above has certain consequences: either we are alone in the Universe, or there are more collective development stages in Life (eg, Awakening, Wisdom). The US intelligence UFO report (eg, NYT, Reuters, Wiki) would suggest we are not alone and that more collective stages in Life do exist.

There’s an intriguing parallel between human non-acceptance in life, and the lifecycle of the salmon: it lives in oceans or seas but swims upstream (ie, against the river flow) for many miles to lay its eggs (ie, spawning) and then usually dies from exhaustion (eg, my 2021 blog Go with the flow).

You Say (2018) by Lauren Daigle

[Chorus]
You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
You say I am held when I am falling short
When I don’t belong, You say I am Yours
And I believe, I believe
What You say of me
I believe
