Recently, I noticed an intriguing quote by Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900): “The true man wants two things: danger and play. For that reason he wants woman, as the most dangerous plaything.” I may not be a “true” man as I fail to recognize myself. In my view, Nietzsche may even have confused women for men.
I’m reminded of the first line of a 1978 song (see below): “Pretty women out walking with gorillas down my street”. My blog’s title would make some sense in that (song) example. Trophy wives would make another example. In Kenya, I noticed high age differences within interracial couples that may also qualify.
Last year, I dated someone who resembles a good-looking actress. For once, I went out of my comfort zone. She broke up with me 3 times and reconnected to me twice. Perhaps, I lost count (sic!). She disappeared from my life after staging a deliberate, mean morning row. She reminded me why models are off-limits.
The title of my blog reminds me of the two primal emotions in our life: love and fear (my 2016 blog). A mix would constitute a love for fear and would then equal my blog title. I’m more of a guy who is into Love for Love, a 1993 song by Robin S. (see below). My Chinese zodiac has a sense (and dislike) for danger.
Given 2 parameters (ie, love + fear), there are 4 categories: (1) love-4-love, (2) love-4-fear, (3) fear-4-love, (4) fear-4-fear. Apparently, Nietzsche is talking about the 2nd category. In his view, that category would give a “true” (wo)man. In my view, “true” is a subjective rather than an objective truth (my 2019 blog).
I haven’t even found a single site that bothers to explain the Nietzsche quote above. Everyone seems to take this quote at face value. His quote might just be irony. Wikipedia, second paragraph: “Nietzsche’s writing spans [..] while displaying a fondness for aphorism and irony.”
At least, my analysis of this quote has resulted in identifying 4 basic personality types: (1) love-4-love, (2) love-4-fear, (3) fear-4-love, (4) fear-4-fear. I had never thought of those types before. They seem to match the people I know. To be continued?
Is She Really Going Out With Him? – 1978 – by Joe Jackson

Pretty women out walking with gorillas down my street
From my window, I’m staring while my coffee goes cold
Look over there (Where?)
There, there’s a lady that I used to know
She’s married now or engaged or something, so I’m told
Is she really going out with him?
Is she really gonna take him home tonight?
Is she really going out with him?
‘Cause if my eyes don’t deceive me
There’s something going wrong around here
Luv 4 Luv (1993) by Robin S.

It’s so hard to find someone special
That someone you can love and trust
It’s so hard to put your love on the line
You know love for sure is space and time
