Joe Biden might be the smartest Democrat ever. He is finally turning the tables on the Republicans. It has always fascinated me that Democrats and Republicans had contradicting approaches to the Budget and government debt. While you would expect Republicans would be fiscally conservative, they were not. While you would expect Democrats would be fiscally irresponsible, they were not.
Joe Biden is spending like crazy. His federal budget for 2022 amounts to US$ 6 trillion which is expected to rise to $8.2 trillion by 2031 (eg, NYT, Reuters). This should finally force future Republican governments to put their money where their mouth is: fiscal conservatism. Before, Republicans were doing the thing they accused Democrats of doing: fiscal irresponsibility. Sources: BI, TDS, Wiki.
I liked Barack Obama as a person but I don’t think he was a great US president. Donald Trump was despicable as a person but he wasn’t the worst US president either (eg, China). Joe Biden was underestimated by nearly everyone, including me. I was wrong and I’m glad to be wrong. Joe Biden is as sharp as they come.
Republicans may argue that Joe Biden is buying future Democrat votes. That may well be true when you believe that you can buy votes through that rather indirect way. It is, however, hard to argue that Republicans were not buying votes while lowering income taxes for the rich.
The most important thing that Joe Biden is doing is lowering inequality, which is a ticking time bomb in American society (eg, Axios). Decreasing tensions in America requires decreasing inequality. The opposite has been true for decades: increasing inequality has caused increasing tensions, including racial tensions.
Obviously, there are also tensions in European societies and/but mainly following immigration. USA is fortunate that most of their immigrants have a similar religious background (eg, Latin America). Islamic terrorism in Europe often has a migration, refugee and/or religious background (my blogs).
“The tables have turned, yes, the tables have turned with a vengeance! You’ve come around to my old way of thinking and I to yours like two people exchanging a call on each other at the same time, and each one finding the other one gone out, the door locked against him and no one to answer the bell!” A quote from the 1948 play Summer and Smoke by Tennessee Williams (1911-1983), an American playwright.
