Early April 2020, I published my blog Happiness & satisfaction (5) and completeness. Several days ago, I sent someone a diagram that should have been included in that blog. I’ve decided to revisit that 2020 topic as it’s probably applicable to (very) many people.
I suppose that (very) many people – like me – feel (100%) happy and (100%) satisfied. Still, something feels missing.
The diagram to the left gives an explanation for that feeling.
The axes give a two-dimensional picture. The arch connects both axes.
In reality, there is additional third dimension that gives depth and explains our yearning.
In my view, Love would be able to reshape the arch into a L-shape.
The result would be a square that comprises 100% of its contents rather than the about 90% coverage following the arch or curve.
My diagram is a simplification of reality, obviously. Nevertheless, its simplification makes it accessible and easy to digest. Probably, anyone can understand the meaning of my diagram.
If necessary, I can live (sic!) with the arch and its 90% coverage above. Sometimes, however, you meet a person who seems to complete you, and seems to remove the missing 10%. Recently, I thought, felt and believed that I had found that person. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
“You complete me.” A line from Jerry Maguire, the 1996 American romantic comedy-drama sports film with Tom Cruise and Renée Zellweger.

She completes me
It’s how she reads me
Right or wrong
It’s so clear she’s
All that I need
All I need yeah
