Last weekend, I let myself be part of a fight on Facebook, following a rather provocative op-ed by Sylvain Ephimenco, a writer for Dutch newspaper Trouw: Why is everyone silent on corona fatalities? With hindsight, there was some irony in my participation, considering Monday’s blog: Click. Bait. Fight. Regulate.
In view of that heated Facebook discussion, I decided to prepare a table showing the Top-10 of micro and macro arguments that are mirroring each other. Originally, I had planned to prepare a blog featuring my Top-5 of corona misinformation. Such a Top-5 might be considered as an addition to ongoing polarization, while I prefer bridging seemingly different opinions.
Please find below my (mirroring) table of micro and macro arguments on Covid-19:
I added the following introduction on Facebook and LinkedIn:
“Every coin has 2 sides.
Hence, both the micro and the macro perspective are equally valid. Unfortunately, most people feel a choice must be made.
For the moment, our governments favour the micro side. Slowly, the tide is turning. Economical devastation will tip the scales – or a WHO downgrade of the virus.”
There is no right and/or wrong in the above arguments. There are only perspectives (eg, micro vs macro). Our consciousness will filter what we see so that the information will fit our beliefs (eg, ideology). I have little ideology and lots of pragmatism (my recent blog). Hence, I can prepare this table and claim – without any hesitation – that both perspectives are equally valid.
I expect that our governments are unable to maintain their current position. Sooner or later, our fear over economic devastation will be stronger than our fear over the virus. It’s human nature.

If they say why (why?), why (why?)
Tell them that it’s human nature
