When you are in the midst of something then its details are often overwhelming (eg, a breakup). At times, you cannot see the forest for the trees. Taking a distance from an object or subject is not always easy because of an abundance of emotions. The arrow of time (eg, ageing) usually makes us forget details and often brings a bigger picture.
Initially, I referred to this phenomenon as the micro-macro conundrum (part 1 and part 2 of my 2019 blogs).
More recently, I realised that micro and macro are part of human focus and perspective (my 2020 blog).
This week, I updated my 5 May 2020 diagram. Initially, my entire diagram appeared in the upper right corner (black and red lines).
Then I got curious and added the 3 other corners (blue lines), while maintaining my original metrics (ie, space/time dimension and inward/outward).
Subsequently, I used an auditing concept to tweak inward versus outward: in mind (ie, intentions) versus in appearance (ie, deeds, words). This auditing concept improves the inward vs outward distinction.
It took me some time to fully appreciate what was emerging in my updated diagram, being the conscious level (ie, left upper corner) of the 4 levels of Consciousness – an integrated framework (my 7 August 2017 blog). Interestingly, the red micro-macro line also represents human ageing, maturing (of intelligence), and the wisdom of age (eg, Oscar Wilde quote).
“Remember, whatever you focus upon, increases…When you focus on the things you need, you’ll find those needs increasing. If you concentrate your thoughts on what you don’t have, you will soon be concentrating on other things that you had forgotten you don’t have-and feel worse! If you set your mind on loss, you are more likely to lose…But a grateful perspective brings happiness and abundance into a person’s life.”
A quote from the 2009 book The Noticer by Andy Andrews.

I don’t know how I am supposed to feel without a focus
I’m trying, trying every day
But I don’t know if perspective ceases to exist
