Lucky at cards, unlucky in love (2)

In May 2018, I wrote my blog: Lucky at cards, unlucky in love. Nothing much has changed for me since writing that blog. I just read it again for looking at its angle and noticed that my 2018 arguments should not even apply to me. In 2013, I already stopped earning money following a severe burn-out. Afterwards, I decided for an early “retirement”.

Last year, a local friend made a comment to me: she wasn’t interested in dating (eg, me) because her Love belonged to God (my 2019 blog). The ancient Greek indeed used various words for separating the various types of love: agápe, éros, philía, philautia, storgē, and xenia. Agápe means divine love between God and humans, while éros is about romantic love between humans.

Perhaps, agápe and éros are mutually exclusive and “cannot both occur at the same time”. In religions, you often notice that priests are not allowed to have romantic relationships. Their human love belongs exclusively to their Supreme Being.

The flipside of this argument is that there would be no human offspring and the human race would cease to exist. Moreover, there are legends that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and that they had offspring. The bloodline of Jesus has given rise to books and movies, like The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

Notwithstanding the above, I do notice a conflict between agápe and éros in my own life. It’s more difficult to focus on agápe when you’re under the spell of éros. In that context, I do understand – and respect – the choice my local friend has made. As a writer, I also understand that focus is a Need, a Want, and a Belief (my blogs).

In 2011, my former longtime girlfriend made a remark that I never forgot: do you notice that all those women are looking at you when you walk around? I answered that I did not notice and that I didn’t even believe it. She challenged me to walk around again and to monitor what would be happening. She was right: women do take an appreciative look at me.

In 2006, a Feng Shui Master already predicted that I’ll have a lot of women after me in my whole life. I have never used those words to my advantage. I’m usually focussed on what’s happening inside me rather than outside me. Perhaps, this inward focus may explain why I’m unlucky in love as I do not notice the opportunities around me.

“Finding someone to love for the rest of your life should be the easiest thing in the world. I guess the easiest things are the hardest for me.” A quote from the 2012 book False Awakening by Julian Aguilar, an American writer (his bio?).
