Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

Never say never again

My recent and now discarded dating profile stated that I was not interested in one-night-stands and cohabiting. The former still applies; the latter no longer. I think, feel and believe that she will move in with me within some months, although the coronavirus might change her time horizon into weeks. My plan is clear: the sooner, the better.

Earlier versions of my dating profile text had still stated that cohabiting was an option. However, nowadays nobody seems interested in cohabiting anymore. People have their own homes, friends, hobbies, nearby jobs, sporting clubs. Everybody is busy busy busy (my 2016 blog). Female dating profiles often suggest they don’t even have time for building a relationship.

Moreover, cohabiting requires that people qualify for your criteria (eg, boredom, bum, freedom, nagging, slob, snoring, personal time). This list of our cohabiting criteria grows longer as we grow older. At a young age, this list may contain only one item: Tender Loving Care. Soon thereafter, that list will start shaping itself.

A main obstacle in my life, for considering cohabiting, has been snoring. Usually, my sleep was interrupted by (loud) snoring. During the night, I then escaped to my second bedroom. Sometimes, I even had to close both bedroom doors to minimise the noise. Often, the prospect of cohabiting was no longer appealing within one or two nights together.

My new love and I are a 100% match in everything so far. We are wondering if – or when – we will find an obstacle, and what our first fight could even be about. We have no clue. Obviously, there are differences between us and/but I have already expressed to her how I will deal with it. It’s important that she realises that I have a long-term plan (with her).

The ingredients in my long-term plan are – to some extent – a reverse engineering of Steve Harvey‘s 2009 book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, and the related 2012 romantic comedy Think Like a Man (IMDb). This movie shows you how to avoid dumb male moves and manage (high) female expectations.

Marriage and divorce are probably still my worst traumas in life. Until quite recently, I could not see myself marrying anyone ever again. My new love has changed my outlook on life within days after her emergence into my life. For both of us, marrying is not a priority but the chances of it happening, are increasing day by day.

“What do you call the three rings of marriage? Engagement ring, wedding ring and suffering.” A quote from the romantic comedy Think Like a Man.

Marry You (2010) by Bruno Mars

artist, lyrics, video, Wiki-1, Wiki-2

It’s a beautiful night

We’re looking for something dumb to do

Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you

Is it the look in your eyes, or is it this dancing juice?

Who cares, baby, I think I wanna to marry you
