Dualism vs trialism

Our societies are governed by dualism: Left vs Right, Globalism vs Nationalism, Knowledge vs Power, global warming vs global cooling, and so on and so forth. In my 2017 blog, I already wondered: Why is Life digital? It took me two more years realising that there is another philosophical concept, called trialism.

Trialism is mostly known for its Body-Mind-Soul concept. I added another concept called Love-Knowledge-Power, which is partly rooted in the observations of Bertrand Russell on the human love for knowledge and for power (eg, BrainPickings-2017).

From an architectural point of view, a triangle is the strongest constructions available (source). This may explain why ancient pyramids lasted so long in human history. Moreover, we are still debating how and when these ancient pyramids were built (eg, my 2016 blog).

Our belief in dualism appears to be a main source of conflicts, like in economics, politics, religion, science, and the truth. On the other hand, trialism is presented as a model governed by harmony (eg, body-mind-soul). The only exception seems love: a love triangle is much more complicated than a couple in love.

The structural problem with the word love is in its meaning regarding the object / subject of that love. Hence, the ancient Greeks used (at least) 4 different words for Love: agápe (divine love), éros (romantic love), philia (brotherly/sisterly love), and storge (familial/parental love).

These 4 types of love pose a question regarding my triangle of Love-Knowledge-Power: which type of love is actually meant in that triangle? I now realize that this question has been on my mind before but that I conveniently ignored it. I did sense though that romantic love (ie, éros) could hardly match Knowledge and Power.

The solution lies in the Body-Mind-Soul concept because the soul is its divine component. Hence, divine love must be represented in the triangle of Love-Knowledge-Power. This realization also solves my “love triangle” above because it’s not about romantic love at all (eg, FFM, FMM). Perhaps, romantic love even needs the support of divine love in order to be strong.

The above solves one of my long-time questions: why did trialism evolve towards dualism? Considering the above, the answer is obvious: the erosion of Faith in a (joint) Supreme Being and the simultaneous surge in the 7 Belief systems. One of those beliefs – Religion – has been accountable and responsible for very many conflicts.

“God has no religion.”A quote by Mahatma Gandhi (1868-1948). Also see my related blog.

Higher Love (1986) by Steve Winwood

Think about it, there must be higher love

Down in the heart or hidden in the stars above

Without it, life is a wasted time

Look inside your heart, I’ll look inside mine
