According to a New York Times article, Michael Cohen characterized his former boss as follows: “He is a racist. He is a con man. And he is a cheat.” However, what’s new?? Most of us already “knew” this. His hardcore supporters may even applaud that behaviour as “all is fair in love and war”, a quote commonly attributed to William Shakespeare (1564-1616).
For decades, US bipartisanship is minimal as both main parties thoroughly detest each other. Sometimes, however, national interests win from political interests, like the bipartisan compromise to avoid a further US federal government shutdown.
A similar bipartisan compromise is emerging following Trump’s threat to skim approved government funding, and redirect such funds to build his American version of the Great Chinese Wall between Mexico and USA (eg, the Hill).
Nevertheless, this guy is still in office as President of the USA. Removing him is far less easy than many think – or assume. Impeachment is virtually impossible as that would require a 2/3 supermajority in the US Senate, which is ruled by the President’s party. Even applying the 25th Amendment seems farfetched (my 11 January 2019 blog).
The 2017 Special Counsel investigation by former FBI director Robert Mueller may reveal that Donald Trump is an illegitimate President of the USA, following Russian interference in the voting in three key states: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin (eg, Independent).
The election results in these 3 swing states are so suspicious that James Clapper, former long-term Director of National Intelligence, wrote the following in his 2018 book “Facts and Fears: Hard Truths from a Life in Intelligence“:
“Of course the Russian effort affected the outcome. Surprising even themselves, they swung the election to a Trump win. To conclude otherwise stretches logic, common sense, and credulity to the breaking point. Less than 80,000 votes in three key states swung the election. I have no doubt that more votes than that were influenced by this massive effort by the Russians.” (the Hill, my 2018 blog)
Proving the above beyond a reasonable doubt takes time. Robert Mueller seems to operate like this: (i) cutting plea bargain deals with “soldiers” in order to (ii) convict and sentence their “officers”, like Flynn and Manafort. Then Mueller will aim to convict King Donald’s family members. Such a move may finally force Trump to succumb and resign.
