On 29 March 2019, in only 6 months time, the UK is scheduled to leave the European Union. Both parties give mixed signals about the state of the negotiations on a Brexit agreement. This Brexit agreement will define the future relationship, if any, between Great Britain and the EU. For some time, the negotiations are in an impasse. My diagram below shows the Brexit stalemate.
The 1st referendum showed a divided country in which 51.9% voted for Leave and 48.1% for Remain (BBC). The September YouGov Bregret tracker shows that about 40% still think this was a Right decision while nearly 50% think it was a Wrong decision. The current Brexit perception is – most likely – related to the Brexit chaos since 2016.
Even when Mrs May would leave the final Brexit vote up to UK Parliament, the outcome would still be uncertain (my July blog). Labour’s leader is more focused on toppling Mrs May’s government then serving the country’s needs. The European Union’s non-interference in Britain’s Brexit discussions may imply a silent preference for Mrs May.
I doubt that any British male politician could or would have pulled off what Mrs May is still doing. I think, feel, and believe that she will once be remembered as one of the greatest British politicians ever. Despite her usual Rowan Atkinson-like appearance (eg, Johnny English, Mr. Bean), there is a tough leader who is determined to correct a Wrong decision, by all means.
