The 45th President is starting a trade war with China at the expense of the American population. Inflation will rise as imports will become more expensive due to higher import tariffs. In other words, the cost of living for Joe Sixpack will become even more expensive. There is little doubt that cheap Chinese exports have kept consumer price inflation low in America and in Europe.
Blaming China for (i) intellectual property (IP) theft and (ii) copyright infringement is – most likely – justified. To a large extent, a similar process happened in Japan in the 1970s and 1980s. One could also blame Western companies for the inadequate safeguarding of their assets. Probably, the move of Western production facilities to China has also contributed to this situation.
Popular thinking suggests that the 45th President is crazy, erratic, and even a “moron“. In my view, the 45th President is streetsmart, sly, and devious rather than a “mentally deranged U.S. dotard“. His narcissistic behaviour is his perfect disguise. The British PM is also seen as weak by the general public, while I believe she is (street) smart, sly, and conning. Hence, my blogs on Mrs May’s Machiavellian Moves.
Given the above, the American-Chinese trade war is just another example of Trump’s Revolution of disruption, chaos and destruction (part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4). The target of this trade war is the USA, not China. The upcoming White House meeting between the presidents of Russia and USA may discuss the next steps in this American revolution of disruption, chaos and destruction.
The absurdity of the above can only continue because Democrats loathe Republicans and vice versa. Several days ago, the GOP chairwoman / RNC head Ronna Romney McDaniel tweeted: “Democrats hate our President more than they love our country” (eg, Salon). A Boston Globe article then argued that “Democrats loathe Trump because they love America”. The discussion on the 45th President has been simplified to these proportions.
Apart from (extreme) bi-partisan U.S. politics, there is another important ingredient that helps understanding the above: (extreme) American gullibility (eg, Forbes, Independent, Mother Jones, New Yorker, NYT-1914, OSU, Quora, ResearchGate, WNYC). The large number of relevant links already supports my claim in and of itself.
The issues of bi-partisan politics and American gullibility have created an Us vs Them society. The 45th President changes political sides whenever convenient to him. His slick manoeuvres create the fear of losing amongst Republicans, and the hope of winning amongst Democrats. This allows the 45th President to remain a rather stable position in a chaotic White House.
The above is about to change. On 3 April 2018, the WaPo reported that “Mueller told Trump’s attorneys the president remains under investigation but is not currently a criminal target“. As an expert in (deep) denial and reverse psychology, the 45th President knows better.

Rising up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I’m back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive
