Recently, an article claimed that humans are actually the aliens we are looking for in our Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. To some, this message may seem absurd. If only, because the evolution theory claims that humans descend from an algae explosion 650 million years ago (eg, ABC, Nature), and – obviously – apes and monkeys. To others, that notion is also absurd.
The evolution of Homo sapiens has 2 distinct phases: the anatomically modern humans and the behavioural modern humans, who are “evident from around 40,000–50,000 years ago and may have emerged abruptly then or may have arisen gradually” (eg, Springer, Wiki).
It’s still unclear what triggered the “suite of [behavioural modern] changes in Homo sapiens behavior and cognition including abstract thinking, deep planning, symbolic behavior (e.g. art, ornamentation and music), exploitation of large game and blade technology” (Wiki).
The (undisputed) Sumerian King List tells this story: “After the kingship descended from heaven, the kingship was in Eridug. In Eridug, Alulim became king; he ruled for 28800 years.” At “c. 2600 BC, En-me-barage-si, who made the land of Elam submit, [is] the earliest ruler on the List confirmed independently from epigraphical evidence” (Wiki).
Alulim, the 1st King, dates back to 257,655 BC based on the various reigning periods. Wiki: “Professor [of Archaeology] William H. Shea suggests that Alulim was a contemporary of the biblical figure Adam, who may have been derived from Adapa of ancient Mesopotamian religion.”
The Sumerian King List makes reference of a flood that separates very long Antediluvian reigns from later reigns. Wiki: “After the flood had swept over, and the kingship had descended from heaven, the kingship was in Kish.”
This kingship should have started around 16,455 BC when adding the various reigns to the earliest known dating of 2600 BC. The post-glacial sea level rise – or Great Flood – indeed started some 18,000 years ago.
At c. 4220 BC, the Sumerian King List mentions Enmerkar. The historian David Rohl noted a parallel “between the epithet “the Hunter”, applied to Nimrod, and the suffix -kar at the end of Enmerkar’s name, which means “hunter” (Wiki). Nimrod was the king of Abraham, “the common patriarch of the three Abrahamic religions“, Judaism, Christianity and Islam (my blog, Wiki).
According to Sumerian beliefs, the behavioural modern human is a merger of an egg cell of their (alien!) gods, the Anunnaki, and sperm of anatomically modern humans. In this context, we could indeed be viewed as partly alien and having a godlike image. Our search for extraterrestrial intelligence then gets a brand new meaning: it’s a search for our ancestors.
