I have come at a point where I’m wondering what will be sooner: Trump’s impeachment or Trump declaring Martial law. Everything Trump does is geared towards conflict and/or collision while embarrassing allies, friends and supporters. It’s too simple to see this as an act of a lunatic. Usually lunatics are not (self-proclaimed) billionaires.
TIME’s most recent cover pictures Steve Bannon, Trump’s Chief Strategist, and calls him The Great Manipulator. It’s hard to think, feel and believe that the current U.S. administration is not manipulating everyone.
The internal conflicts with the other two branches of U.S. government (ie, Legislature and Judiciary) are either ignorant or manipulative. Blaming judges for the consequences of adhering to the U.S. Constitution is manipulative, not ignorant. Hence, I opt for manipulative, also given the reputations of Bannon and Trump.
On 25 January 2017, Bannon said: “The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while. I want you to quote this. The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.” (eg, NYT)
If Bannon‘s remark would have been said in China, Philippines, Russia or Turkey then we would have understood. However, this remark was made in the USA, the so-called “land of the free“. More and more, I think, feel and believe that we are underestimating Trump’s agenda. The only way out of the partisan political U.S. deadlock is “to destroy the state, and [] to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.” (eg, my 8 Feb 2017 blog, Snopes)
A rejection of Trump’s Muslim ban by Federal courts will have consequences. It’s very unlikely that Bannon and Trump will accept this. Disobeying the judicial branch by the executive branch, is likely to be adequate reason for Trump’s impeachment. The alternative is worse. There is another way to formally bypass the judicial branch and that would require invoking Martial law.
The Greater Good (or Utilitarianism) is an extreme philosophy that it’s okay to sacrifice some/many people in order to save an even greater number of people (eg, the deliberate downing of a passenger airplane before it can destroy a city). This is an excerpt from my 23 January 2017 blog. Somehow I think, feel and believe that the USA will experience a different example shortly.
I’m reminded of an observation from my 13 May 2016 blog “The End of Democracy as we know it”: TRUMP is an abbreviation for Turkey Russia USA Mugabe Peking Philippines.
