He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named now leads in the Republican presidential candidate field by 27% according to USA Today. This may seem a lot but 27% of 50% is under 14% nationwide. I suppose that 14% would indeed represent the size of the national pool in which he is fishing. This USA version of Voldemort is also leveraging on fear amongst his people. As stated in several other blogs: fear is an excellent manipulator of humans.
Some of his Republican friends have a hard time in choosing whose side they are on. On Tuesday 8 December, the chairman of the Republican Party Reince Priebus, the Republican House speaker Paul Ryan and the Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell condemned GOP presidential front-runner Lord Voldemort’s call to ban all Muslims from entering the United States (CNN).
To some extent, Voldemort’s appeal was immediately successful as “the House overwhelmingly passed legislation on Tuesday (407 to 19) that would overhaul the federal visa waiver program and bar those from Iraq, Syria, Iran and the Sudan, or those who have visited those countries in the last five years, from traveling to the United States without a visa”. (eg, FOX, Bloomberg)
The real issue with fear management is that it appeals to deep and dark instincts. Lord Voldemort and others play with those (genuine) fears and use them for their own benefit. As fear management only works for some time, new fears need to created. The American Voldemort “has offended women, Mexicans, disabled people, Jews, Chinese and immigrants” (Guardian).
Guardian: “He articulates the frustration and bewilderment of that section of uneducated, unskilled, low-paid white America, whose wages have stagnated and social mobility has stalled that is nostalgic for its local privileges and global status. In recent times, they have lost wars, jobs, houses and confidence”. It is probably the only group that is indeed immune for his venom of hatred.
Based on the above analysis, it is highly likely that he will ultimately inject his venom in the already heated “Black vs White” issue (eg, Black Lives Matter). That issue is one of the biggest taboos in politically correct USA. As most Whites avoid that debate, Voldemort is likely to see his chances there. In his thinking: save the best for last. It’s also a beautiful Vanessa Williams song.
The only one who can stop Voldemort is Harry Potter. Albus Dumbledore (HC?) lost due to his (her) age. Actually, Paul Ryan might be the Harry Potter that America needs to stop it from getting a DP – sorry, DT.
Europe should learn from this clear example of buying your way into (presidential) elections. James Goldsmith, an Anglo-French billionaire financier and tycoon, once wrote: “If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys”. I think and feel that we should prefer monkeys in politics above King Kong.
With friends like him, who needs enemies??
